Where we are, and who is actually near us
One building in Northeast Columbia, and an honest account of how far away everywhere else is.
There is one Max Speed Elite, at 1055 Sparkleberry Lane Extension, Columbia, SC 29223. Everything below is measured from that door.
Most pages like this one list thirty towns and imply the business is somehow present in all of them. This one does not, because the useful question is not how wide a net we can claim. It is whether the drive is worth it to you, and that answer is different in Spring Valley than it is in Cayce.
The core area, within about fifteen miles
These are the neighbourhoods and towns the building genuinely sits inside the daily orbit of. For most of them the journey is a familiar local road rather than a trip, and Clemson Road Extension and Hardscrabble Road do most of the work.
The edge of it, sixteen to eighteen miles out
Irmo, West Columbia and Cayce are in scope and people do come from them, but they are a short drive rather than minutes away, and it is worth being plain about that. Each of those towns has its own recreation facilities that are closer and, in at least one case, considerably cheaper.
What they do not have is an hour. The reason somebody drives past a nearer gym is almost always that the nearer gym is shut at the time they are free. If your constraint is money and you can play at two in the afternoon, book locally. If your constraint is the clock, the drive starts to make sense.
The hour, not the mile
Booking is by appointment around the clock, so the drive is judged against whether anywhere nearer is even open.
One rate, everywhere
$30 an hour for a half court regardless of where you set off from. No travel surcharge, no peak rate.
Not sure it is worth it
Call and ask. Billy will tell you honestly if something closer suits you better.
Blythewood, specifically
Blythewood is the one town in the area with enough of its own basketball population, and few enough indoor floors, to be worth writing about on its own. It is roughly ten miles north, which is usually fifteen to twenty minutes depending on the road and the hour.
There is a fuller piece on indoor basketball courts near Blythewood covering what the schools and the county run, and where the gaps fall.
Beyond about twenty miles
Camden, Lugoff and Winnsboro are outside any honest definition of local here. Nobody is stopped from booking, but you would be driving past a lot of alternatives, and this site is not going to tell you otherwise.
Questions people ask
- Where exactly is the building?
- 1055 Sparkleberry Lane Extension, Columbia, SC 29223. It is in Northeast Columbia, just off Clemson Road, and the courts are on one side of the building with the fitness center on the other.
- Do you have more than one location?
- No. There is one building, and everything described on this site happens in it.
- Is it worth driving from Irmo, West Columbia or Cayce?
- That depends on what you need. Those towns are sixteen to eighteen miles away, which is a real drive rather than a quick hop, and each has closer options of its own. The reason people make that trip is the hour rather than the distance, because a court you can book at 5am or 11pm is not something the closer options offer.
- Do you serve Camden, Lugoff or Winnsboro?
- Not really. They are beyond twenty miles and there is no sensible way to describe that as local. Anyone is welcome to book, but we are not going to pretend it is convenient.
- Does it cost more if I travel further?
- No. It is $30 an hour for a half court wherever you have driven from, at every hour of every day.
